During the summer of 1946, there were many problems with the section gang. In two separate fights among gang members, George Ruffin and Murphy Corley were killed. Today, Tulasco serves the former Western Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads (now both part of the Union Pacific) as a signal station and siding. All that remains of the town of Tulasco are the concrete foundations of the sectionhouse and water tower. The old railroad roadbed for the Metropolis spur lies to the east of the foundations; piles of broken bottles mark the spot where the saloon once stood.

Turn left on the road and follow it for ½ mile to Melandco. DIRECTIONS: Melandco was a stop and signal station on the Oregon Short Line beginning in 1925. The name was an abbreviated form of the Metropolis Land Company and was so named because it was the siding nearest the Bishop Creek Reservoir and part of the company’s great plans for the area.
