These committees may be ad hoc to meet specific needs of the school. For example, a new ad hoc committee called diversity will be assembled for next year to examine diversity issues at school. Chairs of board committees give progress reports at the once-a-month board meetings. Board committees at the beginning of the year develop goals based on the school’s long range plan. Agendas for board meetings are completed jointly by the board president and principal. Approximately 20 percent of the board members are women while the rest are male.

Parents are quite involved in the school with large attendance at conferences, school programs and fundraising activities. Parent club meetings are held three times a year. These meetings have small attendance; the agenda includes updates on parents’ fundraising activities, ‘state of the school’ remarks; questions from parents are submitted to the principal prior to the meeting. Parents are encouraged to assist the school as room parents, and chairs of fundraising activities, with the school auction and in running the school store.
