She participated in the Battle of the Java Sea and the March 1, 1942 action against American and British ships. She was assigned to the Aleutians Guard Force as part of the Midway operation. On June 25, 1942, she was sunk by the American submarine Nautilus near Yokosuka, with no survivors.
