Aquí el rey transformado en bestia "vive con los onagros•• (Dn 4,22), pero el tema está un poco más desarrollado. No se trata de una transformación física, sino de una locura en su comportamiento, interpretada como un castigo divino hasta que la conversión del rey ponga fin a ella. Semejante tema puede universalizarse: ¿no se portan todos los tiranos totalitarios como fieras salvajes?
Se habla de una gran expedición contra los países vecinos de Israel: el mismo Egipto y, más allá, Libia y Nubia. Al mismo tiempo, el tirano "vendrá al País magnífico» (la tierra santa) y, tras un nuevo ir y venir de oriente y del norte, plantará sus tiendas "entre el mar y la montaña santa de la magnificencia» (Jerusalén). Entonces «llegará su fin» (11,45). Esta perspectiva es convencional, ya que la expedición de Antíoco lo condujo más bien a Elimaida, donde murió en otoño del 164; pero la noticia no había llegado todavía a Jerusalén.
