PREFACE In 1998, the best selling book by Linda Lambert, Building Leadership Capacity in Schools, was published by ASCD. It captured the imagination of educators across the world and generated a renewed interest in leadership development in schools. This book is an adaptation of Building Leadership Capacity in Schools and reflects some of the ideas contained in the sequel Developing Sustainable Leadership Capacity in Schools and LEAs. It deliberately places key concepts, exemplars and rubrics contained in both books in the context of the English educational system.
